The NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists of possible delays as road safety and reliability improvements get underway at several locations on Northland’s state highway network next week.
The maintenance work will involve some single lane closures. Traffic flows will be monitored closely but there could be some delays at times.
Contractors will begin work to widen the road and reseal the surface of SH12 near Raupo Wharf from Monday (21 March).
The work will improve pedestrian and motorist safety and make the road more resilient.
The work is expected to take four weeks and be completed by mid-April.
Work will also get underway on SH10 near the junction with Takau Bay Road.
Trees will be removed to improve visibility and safety.
The road will also be widened and resurfaced. There may be some single lane closures in place at times.
Further work will begin after Easter on SH1 at Smeatons Hill, to improve drainage and repair potholes.
The road will also be resealed.
“This is an important part of maintaining the reliability and safety of these highways for all road users, and we thank drivers for being patient while we carry out these improvements,” says Northland Highway Manager, Brett Gliddon.
“Motorists should take extra care through these work areas and factor extra journey times into their plans.”
No work will be carried out over the Easter holiday period.
