NZ Transport Agency contractors are cleaning the Lyttelton Tunnel this Thursday night, 19 May, 8 pm through to Friday morning, 20 May, 6 am.
“This is part of standard maintenance for the tunnel, reducing it to one lane around the maintenance crew,” said Transport Agency Journey Manager Lee Wright. “There will be slight delays for late night and early morning road users as a result.”
Fuel tankers and other carriers of dangerous goods are not allowed access during this time.

The alternative routes in and out of Lyttelton are via Gebbies Pass (from or to Banks Peninsula) or over Dyers Pass Road around the harbour (from or to Christchurch).
