NZ Transport Agency contractors are cleaning the Lyttelton Tunnel next Thursday night, 12 May, 8 pm through to Friday morning, 13 May, 6 am.
'This is part of standard maintenance for the tunnel, reducing it to one lane around the maintenance crew,' said Transport Agency Journey Manager Lee Wright. 'There will be slight delays for road users due to the single lane operation.'
Fuel tankers and other carriers of dangerous goods are not allowed access during this time.
Dangerous goods transport which requires tunnel closures will be allowed to pass through the tunnel before and after the maintenance period:
• 7.00pm – 8.00pm Thursday night
• 6.00am – 7.00am Friday morning
The Transport Agency apologises for the inconvenience caused to road users, however these works are for essential maintenance and need to be undertaken.
