The 96 year old Luggate (Red) Bridge on State Highway 8A over the Clutha River, connecting Luggate and Tarras is undergoing a necessary maintenance repaint which is expected to be completed before Easter.
The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) has just started preparatory work for the painting including installing the scaffold. The painting is expected to be completed by Wednesday 31 March. The bridge will be painted a similar colour to what it is at the moment.
NZTA Area Manager John Jarvis says road users can expect periodic delays of up to 10 minutes while the single lane steel structure is painted. Every effort is being made to minimise disruption to motorists, however at times there will be delays of up to 10 minutes at the bridge between 7am and 8pm Mondays to Saturdays.
The NZTA apologises for the delays which are unavoidable as road user safety is a priority while this work is being carried out.
