Important information for drivers.
Weather Alerts:
- Spring is serving up more bad weather this weekend, with Strong Wind Warnings in place for the Marlborough, Wellington, Wairarapa, and Tararua Districts from Saturday afternoon. The Metservice is forecasting severe gale northwesterlies gusting to 120 km/h in exposed places.
- The bad weather will affect SH1, SH62, and SH63 in Marlborough, and SH1, SH2, SH58, SH59, and SH53 in Wellington, Kāpiti Coast, and Wairarapa. Road users, especially motorcyclists, light vehicles, trucks, and vans, must take extra care on exposed routes.
- Drivers should also be ready for hazards such as cross winds, tree falls, downed power lines, and wind-blown debris.

Lower North Island:
- In the Hutt Valley, week two of planned resurfacing and night works continues on State Highway 2
- There will be night closures for regular tunnel maintenance on State Highway 1 in the Wellington CBD. The Terrace Tunnel will be closed on Monday night between 9 pm and 5;30 am. Then, on Tuesday night, the Mount Victoria Tunnel will also be closed from 9 pm to 5:30 am. Drivers will have to use local road detours and should allow for extra travel time.
Top of the South Island:
- Underslip repairs continue on State Highway 60 Tākaka Hill. From Monday, work crews will begin building the retaining wall. This involves lifting 12-15-metre-tall piles and sheets into place then driving them into the ground. This will occur between 7 am and 4 pm, Monday to Friday and the installation of the piles is expected to take approximately three weeks to complete.
- Guard rail repairs will be carried out at several sites on State Highway 1 between Picton and Blenheim next week. Drivers can expect short delays of around five minutes on the route and should allow extra time for their journeys.
