Important information for drivers.
Lower North Island:
Event:
- The Foo Fighters are playing at Sky Stadium on Saturday night. Extra traffic can be expected in and out of Wellington around 5 pm and 11 pm as fans travel to and from the event.
Major works:
- From Monday through Wednesday nights, night-time maintenance closures will occur between 9 pm and 5:30 am of the urban tunnels on State Highway 1 in Wellington’s CBD. Drivers heading through the city will have to use alternative routes and can expect delays. The Terrace Tunnel will be closed on Monday night. Mt Victoria Tunnell will close on Tuesday night, and the Arras Tunnel will close on Wednesday.
- The southbound lanes on the Wellington urban motorway will be closed from the Aotea Quay offramp to the Terrace Tunnel on Monday night between 9 pm and 4:30 am for maintenance work and sign repairs. Drivers heading into the city can take the Aotea Quay offramp or use Hutt Road.
Weather:
- The Metservice has issued a strong wind watch for Wellington on Saturday between 6 am and 3 pm. Drivers of high-sided vehicles, motorcyclist, and cyclists will need to take extra care in exposed areas.
Top of the South Island:
Major works:
- Summer maintenance work continues on the state highway network across Marlborough. Drivers can expect to see resurfacing work underway on State Highway 6 and State Highway 63 during the week. Contractors will also be doing drainage work on State Highway 63.
- Regular users of State Highway 1 between Marlborough and Canterbury need to plan for night-time maintenance closures of Weld Pass. This work is due to run from 18-20 February and will see State Highway 1 closed at Weld Pass from 8 pm to 6 am for three nights.
Weather:
- A heavy rain warning is in place for Golden Bay/Tākaka for Saturday morning. The Metservice is forecasting up to 90 mm of rain. This weather will affect State Highway 60 and the Tākaka Hill. Drivers should check road and weather conditions before travelling.
