Planned state highway roadworks over the coming week.
Important information for drivers
Winter Driving:
- The last week has shown just how much an impact a winter storm can have on the highways. Our contractors work hard to keep roads open when the weather is bleak, but when conditions get too dangerous, the call has to be made to close them. The video below explains how our road crews work when highway conditions become challenging in bad winter weather.
North Island:
- Directional lane closures will be in place again on State Highway 58 between the Pāuatahanui roundabout and SH58/Transmission Gully interchange this Sunday.
- There is an ongoing lane closure on State Highway 2 on the Featherston side of the Remutaka Hill. Regular users of the route also need to be planning for a planned maintenance closure on 13 August.
- We are getting to the sharp end of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. The round of 16 elimination game is this Saturday and the quarterfinal next Friday. Larger crowds are expected for these fixtures. Keep an eye on match times and if you’re heading to a game, plan your travel to ensure you get there on time.
South Island:
- Travellers going through Picton need to be aware of ongoing work on Dublin Street. A closure is in place for approximately 20 months while a new overbridge is built. More details can be found on the Marlborough District Council website.
The details below outline the main planned state highway roadworks occurring in the greater Wellington region and the top of the South Island over the coming week (from Saturday, 5 August). Further details about regional state highway conditions and roadworks are also published on our website:
NOTE: Roadworks are dependent on weather and other factors. Bad weather can see work postponed to the next suitable night in the works programme.
