Important information for drivers
Winter Driving:
- Winter brings challenging driving conditions, and drivers must know what to do when the weather is bad. Check the road and weather conditions before travelling and ensure you have what you need if something goes wrong. More useful tips and advice can be found on our YouTube channel.
North Island:
- Directional lane closures will be in place on State Highway 58 between the Pāuatahanui roundabout and SH58/Transmission Gully interchange this Sunday.
- This Saturday, a lane will be closed on State Highway 2, Horokiwi, as contractors prepare for rockfall protection works.
- If you are in the capital and travelling in and out of the CBD, be aware of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. Keep an eye on match times, especially for the big games, and plan your travel accordingly
South Island:
- State Highway 6, Whakatu Drive, will have a night-time southbound lane closure on 31 July and 1 August. This is for a Nelson City Council culvert upgrade project.
- Travellers going through Picton need to be aware of ongoing work on Dublin Street. A closure is in place for approximately 20 months while a new overbridge is built. More details can be found on the Marlborough District Council website.
The details below outline the main planned state highway roadworks occurring in the greater Wellington region and the top of the South Island over the coming week (from Saturday, 15 July). Further details about regional state highway conditions and roadworks are also published on our website:
NOTE: Roadworks are dependent on weather and other factors. Bad weather can see work postponed to the next suitable night in the works programme.
