Important information for drivers
Winter Driving:
- Winter brings more than just a wonderland; it also brings challenging driving conditions. It is essential for motorists to drive to the conditions. If you’re in alpine areas, the roads will be slippery. Our team have put together some tips and hints in the video below to help you out.
North Island:
- If you are in the capital and travelling in and out of the CBD, be aware of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. Keep an eye on match times, especially for the big games, and plan your travel accordingly
South Island:
- Travellers going through Picton need to be aware of ongoing work on Dublin Street. A closure is in place for approximately 20 months while a new overbridge is built. More details can be found on the Marlborough District Council website.
- The Tasman District Council will be carrying out wastewater works during the day on State Highway 60, Motueka, from 10 July to 27 July between the Motueka River Bridge and Parker Street. Stop/Go traffic management and a 30 km/h speed limit will be in place. Drivers can expect 5–10-minute travel delays from these works.
The details below outline the main planned state highway roadworks occurring in the greater Wellington region and the top of the South Island over the coming week (from Saturday, 15 July). Further details about regional state highway conditions and roadworks are also published on our website:
NOTE: Roadworks are dependent on weather and other factors. Bad weather can see work postponed to the next suitable night in the works programme.
