The details below outline the main planned state highway roadworks occurring in the greater Wellington region and the top of the South Island over the coming week (21 May 2023).
Important information for road users
South Island
- Maintenance work continues on State Highway 6, Whangamoa.
- Construction work on the new Interislander facilities is underway in Picton. This affects local roads for travellers using the Picton ferries.
- More work is to be carried out on fixing the Spooner Saddle slip on State Highway 6 between Belgrove and Kohatu
North Island
- Daily closures will be happening on State Highway 2, Remutaka Hill, on Monday to Thursday next week for feral goat pest control work
- The Carterton District Council is continuing with local road repairs on Hughes Line. It means the current road closure will continue. This will see extra traffic using State Highway 2 through the current safety improvements project between Masterton and Carterton. Travel delays are possible.
- Planned rehabilitation works are coming for State Highway 2, Chapel St, Masterton from June 9
Further details about regional state highway conditions and roadworks are also published on our website:
NOTE: Roadworks are dependent on weather and other factors. If bad weather should strike, work will be postponed to the next suitable night in the works programme.
