Important information for drivers:
Labour Weekend travel tips
- If you are taking a Labour Weekend trip, use the Waka Kotahi Holiday Journey Planner to help organise your travel. Knowing when and where the peak congestion periods and areas are lets you spend more time on holiday and less time in traffic.
- It is also essential to drive safely. Don’t speed – speed has the biggest influence on the outcome of a crash. The faster you go, the worse the outcome. If you are driving long distances, don’t drive while tired, as fatigue increases the risk of a crash. More information and safe driving tips can be found on the Waka Kotahi website.
North Island
- Regular users on State Highway 2, Remutaka Hill, need to be ready for the next planned night-time maintenance closures. Five nights have been set aside for this work from 5 November. The route will be closed between 9am and 4am to let road crews carry out essential maintenance. Bookings for escorted crossings are essential and must be made in advance.
- Reconstruction night works continue until 23 October on State Highway 1, Ruahine St, east of Mount Victoria Tunnel
