The details below outline the main planned state highway roadworks occurring in the greater Wellington region and the top of the South Island over the coming week (14 May 2023).
Other important information for road users:
- Maintenance work is planned for State Highway 6, Whangamoa – starting on 15 May.
- There is a changed traffic layout on local roads for travellers using the Picton ferries.
- State Highway 2, Remutaka Hill, will have 10 nights of closure for essential maintenance between 14 May and 26 May
- The southbound variable speed limit where Transmission Gully and State Highway 59 merge is increasing from 80 km/h to 100 km/h overnight on Monday, 15 May. The 80 km/h speed limit was an interim measure to help motorists get used to the new layout following the opening of Transmission Gully.
- Three weeks of road reconstruction work begins on State Highway 1 at Ohau this Sunday.
NOTE: Roadworks are dependent on weather and other factors. If bad weather should strike, work will be postponed to the next suitable night in the works programme.
