Important information for drivers.
Waitangi Day Holiday
- With many people taking Friday off to extend the Waitangi Day Holiday, extra traffic can be expected on state highways this weekend. Drivers should be ready for this and take all the usual precautions. Be patient, do not speed, pass with care, never drive while tired and make sure everyone is wearing a seatbelt.

Lower North Island
- Night closures are also scheduled for the State Highway 1 urban motorway from this Sunday, and the final stages of resurfacing work will be getting underway on State Highway 2 near Petone from Thursday
Top of the South Island
- Night closures continue next week on State Highway 1 at Weld Pass, resilience works continue at Dashwood, pavement repairs continue on State Highway 1 at Taimate, works are planned for Havelock and near Pelorus on State Highway 6, and roundabout resurfacing continues in Blenheim
- In Nelson/Tasman, night closures are planned for State Highway 6 Whangamoa from 23 February, resilience work will be underway at State Highway 6 Dellows Bluff (Murchison) and State Highway 60 Birds Hill (Tākaka) from next week.
