Important information for drivers.
Lower North Island
- State Highway tunnel maintenance will be underway in Wellington next week on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights. There will be night closures (9 pm – 5:30 am) for the Mount Victoria, Arras, and Terrace Tunnels while this work is underway. Drivers travelling through the Wellington CBD on these nights will have to use local road detours and can expect longer travel times.
- Regular users of State Highway 2 Remutaka Hill need to prepare for the next round of scheduled night closures for maintenance and safety improvements. There will be five nights of closures starting Sunday, 14 April.
- People travelling on State Highway 1 Transmission Gully can expect to see lane closures Sunday to Wednesday for paving works. Road crews will be working nightly, 6 pm to 5 am.
Top of the South Island
- Nightworks are planned for State Highway 1 Picton Elevation from Monday, 15 April. They will run concurrently with day works, until the slow vehicle lane is repaired and restored next month,
- Repairs are planned for the Newton River Bridge on State Highway 6 Upper Buller Gorge at the end of this month. The highway will be closed for three days while this work is carried out. People travelling between Nelson/Tasman and Westport will need to detour via Inangahua, Reefton, and Springs Junction.

NOTE: Roadworks are dependent on weather and other factors. Bad weather can see work postponed to the next suitable night in the works programme.
