Important information for drivers:
School holiday traffic:
- The school holidays end this weekend. It means there may be more traffic on the roads as families return from holiday breaks. Drivers should factor this into their travel plans and allow extra travel time. Make sure you look out for changes in traffic, road and weather, and drive to the conditions. More safe driving tips can be found on our website.
North Island:
- Monthly maintenance resumes for the State Highway 1 tunnels in the Wellington CBD. There will be successive night closures from Monday to Wednesday as the Terrace, Arras, and Mt Victoria tunnels are worked on. Closures will be in place between 9 pm and 5:30 am. Drivers heading through the city will have to use alternative routes.
- Reconstruction night works are ongoing on State Highway 1, Ruahine St, east of Mount Victoria Tunnel
South Island:
- State Highway 60 – Appleby to Motueka has major resurfacing works in progress from 9 October to 20 October
