The Taramakau road/rail bridge on State Highway 6 near Greymouth, will shut overnight this coming weekend to allow the completion of safety improvement work at the bridge.
The 12-hour overnight closure is from 8pm Saturday 27 June to 8am Sunday 28 June. It’s the last of two closures this month, to accommodate safety improvement work, including the installation of rubber mats on the approaches to improve safety for both motorcyclists and cyclists.
Transport Agency Journey Manager Lee Wright, says from midday on Saturday KiwiRail will carry out rail track work in an area adjacent to the highway. Traffic control will be in place while this work is underway, but motorists shouldn’t experience any significant delays.
Ms Wright says the closures have been scheduled to minimise disruptions for road users and any clashes with major events in the region. A detour via local roads will be available through Jacksons, Stillwater and Moana and adds about 90 minutes to travel times.
We apologise for any inconvenience the closure causes motorists, however this final 12-hour closure along with some settled weather, is all that’s needed to finish the job off he said.
