Another milestone has been reached on the Dowse to Petone Upgrade (D2P) Project with the last bridge beam being lifted into place at the Korokoro road bridge yesterday (18 December 2008).
This is the final big lift on D2P as construction on the project’s various bridges and structures continues to run on programme and budget.
NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) Regional Manager Graham Taylor says that having the last beam lift in place before Christmas takes a load off the mind of the contractor’s team leaders.
“Carrying out this final major lift before Christmas means that we are on target for the opening of the Dowse Interchange and temporary closure of the existing Korokoro intersection in early 2009,” he says.
The construction team will begin work in the New Year after a well earned break knowing that they have achieved all their 2008 milestones, and ready to meet those of 2009.
Mr Taylor says that all those working on the project appreciate road users’ patience during the year and wish them a safe journey if travelling during the holiday period.
“Most construction work on the project will stop at noon on Friday 19 December so there will be no lane closures in place. This should ensure that holiday traffic is as free-flowing as possible in both directions,” he says.
He pointed out that motorists should note restricted speed limits will still apply through the site.
