The last beam for the NZ Transport Agency's Harbour Link project was lifted into place today.
NZTA Project Manager Kevin Reid said the steel beam, also known as a box girder, will form part of the new off-ramp which will connect the existing Harbour Bridge to Dive Cr. The beam, which is 47 metres long and weighs approximately 70 tonnes, was constructed off site, delivered in one piece and then lifted into place in a single lift.
To support the new beam, an additional pier was constructed just offshore from the old Sea Scouts building and widening of the abutment adjacent to this area was also required.
Mr Reid said work will start in earnest on constructing the new Dive Cr off-ramp following the closure of the temporary ramp from the Dive Cr roundabout to the new Harbour Bridge, which will coincide with the opening of the Chapel St Viaduct.
