Tairāwhiti Roads is advising motorists that Gladstone Road Bridge will be reduced to one lane with stop/go controllers on Thursday 29 November between 7am and 4pm
“People can expect delays on the bridge and in the surrounding area on Thursday. We’re advising them to allow more time for their journeys,” Tairāwhiti Roads General Manager Dave Hadfield says.
“Our team has been working hard to minimise disruption as much as possible. We appreciate the community’s patience and ask that motorists respect the 30 kilometre per hour speed limit in place at the construction site.”
The contractors will need to close one lane up to four more times between now and the end of the project in order to safely complete construction.
This Thursday the contractors will be laying the next section of precast concrete panels onto Gladstone Road Bridge.
The bridge is being widened by three meters to create a shared walking and cycling path, as part of Gisborne’s Urban Cycleways Programme aimed at getting more people on their bikes.
The project is scheduled for completion in March 2019.
