The NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists to allow extra time for their journey on Tuesday 9 July while contractors clean the Gladstone Road Bridge surface between 10am and 1pm.
One lane closure is needed to allow contractors to clean behind the safety hit posts.
Stop/go traffic management will be in place during the lane closure. The shared path will remain open for pedestrians and cyclists.
Regional Transport Systems Manager Oliver Postings says, "The orange safety hit posts will remain on the bridge until a decision has been made, and implemented if necessary, on a handrail for the path. This may be a few months away as additional funding may be required. We will undertake cleaning as needed.”
The Gladstone Road Bridge shared path was completed in April this year, with $2 million of funding from the National Land Transport Fund and the Urban Cycleways Programme.
