Kopu Bridge, just south of Thames on State Highway 25, will be closed to traffic this coming Tuesday night.
The closure will enable the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) to carry out the permanent repair to the steel plate between the swing-span section of the bridge and the bridge deck.
A clearly signposted detour will be in place between 8pm Tuesday 2 August and 5.30am Wednesday 3 August.
Motorists travelling to and from Auckland will be directed to use SH2 and SH26 as an alternative to SH25 and Hamilton motorists will need to travel to and from Thames via Paeroa Tahuna Road and/or SH26.
The NZTA Acting Waikato State Highway Manager, Michelle Te Wharau advises motorists to either delay travelling until after 5.30am Wednesday or to allow an extra 30 - 40 minutes travel time by taking the alternative route.
This work is weather dependant. If adverse weather prevents the work being carried out on Tuesday night the work will be carried out overnight on Wednesday 2 August.
The NZTA thanks motorists for their patience and cooperation during these works.
