People travelling on State Highway 2 and State Highway 53 in Wairarapa tomorrow will need to monitor the weather and road conditions closely.

The Metservice has extended and upgraded weather warnings for the wider Wellington region, and drivers need to be ready for bad weather.
A Heavy Rain Warning now applies to Wairarapa and will be in force until tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon.
A Strong Wind Warning has also been issued for Wellington, Horowhenua, and the Kāpiti Coast, with south to south-east gales forecast from early this evening until midday tomorrow.
Driving conditions will be challenging across the lower North Island, and road users must drive to the conditions.
Motorcyclists, truckers, van drivers, and light vehicle drivers must exercise extra care on exposed routes such as State Highway 2 Remutaka Hill.
Heavy rain and high winds also increase the risk of slips, tree falls, and flooding. Drivers are urged to check weather and road conditions before they travel.

The Metservice has issued a series of weather warnings and watches for the east coast of the North Island, including a Heavy Rain Watch for the Wairarapa district.
The warning applies for 21 hours from midday Tuesday, with heavy rain forecast for the region.
