The improvements and maintenance of State Highway 73, east of Jacksons, on the main road between the West Coast and Canterbury, have been finished by NZ Transport Agency contractor Fulton Hogan.
"This will come as good news for competitors in the Coast to Coast multi-sport race this weekend. This part of the road is used in the first cycle leg of the race," says Transport Agency Journey Manager Lee Wright.
The widening of the road and improvements to the road’s shoulder were finished last week. “While there may still be some tidying up to do in some areas, the competitors should find it straightforward riding through,” says Ms Wright.
State Highway 73 from Kumara Junction to Jacksons will be closed while the road is being used for the first stage of the race.

The support crews travelling back to Christchurch, as well as other road users, should be aware that there may be slight delays between Arthur’s Pass and Otira, where there is a single lane area with manual traffic control. Contractors are working to repair the damage caused in November’s storm.
There are no other road work sites active this weekend on State Highway 73.
