Two high voltage power poles affected by the NZ Transport Agency works to signalise the Welcome Bay and Maungatapu roundabouts, will be repositioned this weekend.
Kevin Reid, senior project manager for NZTA says the poles, owned by Transpower, are located beside Palmers Garden Centre on the SH29 exit from the Welcome Bay Roundabout and on SH2 on the eastern approach to the Maungatapu roundabout.
“The removal of these poles takes us another step closer to completing this project, which is running on schedule and is expected to be operational by Christmas,” he said.
At 2am on Friday 28 November traffic will be stopped for a brief period while safety nets are erected where the high-tension wires cross SH29, and the Maungatapu and Welcome Bay roundabouts in preparation for the relocation of lines and poles.
Work will begin at 7am on Saturday 29 November to put the new poles in place and shift the overhead high tension wires. This work is expected to be completed by 5pm on Sunday 30 November.
The safety nets will be removed once the high-tension wires have been correctly positioned late on Sunday Night to minimise traffic disruption.
Mr Reid thanked the local community for their ongoing patience. During the repositioning of the poles various lane closures will be in place to enable the work to be undertaken safely. Motorists will need to follow signs and directions given by the workers on site, he said.
