Maintenance surfacing repairs will be carried out over two Sundays starting this weekend on SH2 Hewlett's Flyover from 10.00am to 9.00pm, says the NZ Transport Agency.
Detours for both northbound and southbound traffic will be available during this time beneath the Hewlett’s Flyover via the Golf Road and Newton Street roundabouts.
There will be no speed restrictions in place but delays are possible therefore motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes where possible or allow for additional journey time on Sunday 24 November and Sunday 1 December.
Transport Agency Highways Manager Brett Gliddon says the work is being carried out on two Sundays to minimise disruption to motorists.
“This work involves water cutting the road surface to improve skid resistance as part of our routine maintenance on the Flyover. This highway is very busy during the week and so doing this work on a Sunday allows us to minimise delays to motorists and distance to nearby residents.”
Mr Gliddon wants to thank motorists and neighbours of Hewletts Road in advance for their assistance and apologises for any inconvenience while this work is being undertaken.
The NZ Transport Agency’s website is regularly updated with information about most closures and detours at www.nzta.govt.nz/traffic. This information is also available by phoning the Transport Agency’s free phone on 0800 4HIGHWAYS (0800 44 44 49), which can also be used to report any significant road issues or hazards.
Coincidently, drivers can now subscribe to On The Move which is a free service providing information about road closures, road works and driving conditions on their frequently used routes - to sign up, go to www.onthemove.govt.nz(external link).
