Hebden Crescent safety improvements underway

|

Three months of construction work is underway for planned safety improvements in the Hutt Valley at the intersection of Hebden Crescent and State Highway 2.

Announced in March, changes are being made at two critical intersections with Hebden Crescent to improve safety for the public.

New safety improvements coming for State Highway 2, Hutt Valley

Work on the project began at the end of April. The first stage is underway at the State Highway 2 /Hebden Crescent intersection by Liverton Road.

From Sunday, 12 May, contractors will make changes that will remove right-hand turns in and out of the State Highway 2 / Hebden Crescent intersection by Liverton Road.

They will also extend the median barrier on State Highway 2, making it continuous. The changes are being made because the intersection has the potential for serious side-impact crashes.

The safety improvements will increase travel times for people accessing Hebden Crescent, Liverton Road and Gurney Road – particularly those wanting to travel south along State Highway, as drivers will have to use the State Highway 58 interchange.

However, the intersection changes will minimise disruption for people travelling on State Highway 2 and improve driver safety.

During the coming weeks, the work will require some overnight lane closures on State Highway 2.

Works Schedule:

  • Sunday, 12 May to Thursday, 30 May. Sunday to Thursday nights, 8 pm – 4:30 am (weather permitting)
  • Lane closures – north and southbound for median barrier construction
  • Traffic management will be installed from 7 pm. Drivers may experience some delays
