The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) is planning to upgrade the State Highway 3 Normandy Avenue/Bader Street intersection in Hamilton City.
An information afternoon will be held on Wednesday 28 July to give interested members of the public detailed information about the planned upgrade. The information afternoon will be held at the Methodist Church Hall on the corner of Bader Street and Normandy Avenue between 4pm and 6pm.
NZTA State Highway Manager Kaye Clark says the planned upgrade will improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians, and make it safer and easier for traffic turning out of Bader Street onto Normandy Avenue. It will make it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to travel between Bader and Lorne Streets, and for motorists to access Melville Park and the Bader Street shops. The intersection will also be able to cope with extra traffic that will be generated by development in the Peacockes growth area.

Mrs Clark says, "We have worked closely with Hamilton City Council on these upgrades to make sure we address the safety and access concerns, which the locals currently experience."
Phil Consedine, Hamilton City Council's City Transport Manager says that the upgrade will help manage traffic and improve the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, and it is pleasing that NZTA have committed to upgrading the intersection this year.
The construction works are programmed to commence in November 2010.
