The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) is holding a public information day on Wednesday 30 November to outline the proposed design of the new underpass and to answer questions regarding this project which the NZTA says will improve the SH29 and SH2A intersection at Maungatapu.
NZTA’s Bay of Plenty State Highway Manager Brett Gliddon says the information day is an opportunity for the agency to present the public with information on the proposed design for the new underpass, what it will look like and how it will function.
Mr Gliddon says the underpass will help freight to move through the area more safely and more efficiently, as well as providing a transport solution to manage the future traffic growth expected in the area.
“Providing safe and efficient access of freight to markets is vital to help our economy grow, and the NZTA has identified State Highway 29 as a strategic freight route for this region. Traffic modelling for the SH29/Hairini Link area has shown the future development at Tauriko and residential growth at Welcome Bay and Papamoa will cause the Hairini roundabout to experience delays during the morning and evening rush hour unless the intersection is upgraded,” Mr Gliddon said.
The Hairini Link – Maungatapu underpass public information day will be held at the Scout and Guide Hall, 39 Welcome Bay Road, Welcome Bay starting from 4.00pm until 7.30pm on Wednesday 30 November.
Members of the project team will be available to explain how the underpass will function and answer any questions regarding the project.
