Opening the Chapel St Viaduct on the NZ Transport Agency's Harbour Link Project is back on track after weather delayed its scheduled opening yesterday.
NZTA Project Manager Kevin Reid said that following a break in the wet weather over the past week, and a huge effort from the construction team, the Viaduct would now be opened to traffic on the morning of Monday October 12th.
"I would like to remind people that while motorists familiarise themselves with the new road layouts, traffic flows are likely to be slower for the first few days", he said.
On Monday morning motorists travelling from the Mount will notice the biggest change to their morning commute when they are no longer able to access Dive Cr, Mirrielees Rd or Marsh St directly from the new Harbour Bridge. Their exit points will be at either the Chapel St off-ramp or from Takitimu Dr onto Elizabeth St.
A roadside information sign will be used to advise of the exit point onto the Chapel St off ramp. Extended queues are likely city-bound at these two exit points, particularly at peak periods, until the Dive Cr off-ramp opens in December.
Another significant change will be that Chapel St traffic from Cameron Rd and Otumoetai will be able to use the new on-ramp to the Viaduct off Chapel St.
