The NZ Transport Agency is delighted with the range and scope of feedback received in the first stage of designing a shared path as part of the Peka Peka to Ōtaki Expressway.
Over 200 people attended three public engagement sessions in Ōtaki and Te Horo throughout June, to give their thoughts on early stage design concepts. The online survey received 300 respondents.
Project Delivery Manager Chris Hunt says the aim of the first round of sessions was to understand how people wanted to use the path.
“We wanted to know where people might want to go on the path; how they want to use it, be it on foot, bike, horseback, or by some other means; where they wanted to get on and off, and what the main purpose of their trips along the path would be.
“We got a large amount of positive feedback, with strong support for a path, which is really pleasing, so we’re keen to move forward on the design by keeping in mind how people will use it.”
The design team will now use the information gathered to develop a series of options, which will be brought back to the community later in the year for further input and refinement, before a final design is confirmed.
The shared path is planned to open at the same time as the expressway, in 2020.
