The NZ Transport Agency is advising that the planned lane closure on Gladstone Road Bridge last Friday has been postponed to tomorrow, Tuesday 26 February.
One lane will be closed from 7.30am for approximately eight hours. This is to enable contractors to finish installing new steel balustrades on the bridge.
Tairawhiti Roads General Manager Dave Hadfield says great progress was made on Wednesday last week, with contractors lifting the balustrades into position and drilling bolt holes in preparation for their installation.
“On Tuesday, our contractors will pick up where they left off and complete the installation of the steel balustrades along Gladstone Road Bridge,” Mr Hadfield says.
“Depending on how we go with the installation tomorrow, this could be the last lane closure needed as part of the project to widen the bridge. As with previous closures, traffic controllers will be in place to manage traffic while the lane is closed.
“There are likely to be delays on the bridge and in the surrounding area, so road users are advised to consider using an alternative route or allow an extra 10 minutes for their journey.
“We’d like to thank the community for their patience and understanding throughout the closures.”
