Asphalting works around Gisborne will re-start from Tuesday 5 April, following delays due to recent severe weather in the Tairāwhiti region.
The Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency and Gisborne District Council programme will have a team from out of town undertaking the work.
Waka Kotahi Regional Manager Maintenance and Operations Jaclyn Hankin says the asphalting team is a dedicated specialist workforce being brought in from Wellington and are not being pulled from essential recovery works for the recent Tairāwhiti weather event.
“We are mindful of the challenges the Tairāwhiti community has faced in recent weeks due to the weather and are only starting this work now conditions are settling and more promising weather is on the horizon.”
All road works will be undertaken overnight Monday to Friday and some weekends, between 7pm and 5am, when the roads are less busy. Road closures and detours will be in place.
During the day, there will be temporary speed restrictions in place. People are advised to follow the directions of traffic management staff and signs and expect delays.
In case of poor weather or other unforeseen circumstances, work may need to be postponed.
