Contractors will be on the job on 1 May to reconstruct a section of State Highway 1 just south of Levin.

These works have been postponed again because of forecast bad weather. They are now scheduled to begin on Sunday, 14 May. Sunday to Thursday nights, 8 pm to 5.30 am, weather permitting.
Work will take place one side of the road at a time. At all other times, both lanes will be open under a restricted speed limit. During these works there will be days when the road will be unsealed.

The start date for these works has been postponed due to bad weather forecast for next week.
They are now scheduled to begin on Sunday 7, May and will run for three weeks - Sunday to Thursday nights, 8 pm-5.30 am, weather permitting.
There will also be restrictions on wide loads while work is underway. During ‘deep dig’ stages of work, loads five metres or wider will not be able to travel through the site before three am.

A 130-metre section of State Highway 1 near Marsden Crescent, Ohau, will have its surface and subsurface removed and replaced.
The aim is to make this stretch of highway stronger, safer, and smoother. The repairs will remove the lumps and bumps from the highway and help reduce the traffic noise created by trucks and trailers driving over the rough road surface.
The repairs will be carried out between 1 May and 18 May, with work done at night, 8 pm to 5.30 am, Sunday to Thursday. Night works have been chosen to minimise disruption to road users.
Stop/Go traffic controls will be in place while the work is underway. Both road lanes will be open during the day when work isn’t being done.
Speed restrictions will apply at the site, and drivers must observe them. This is for their safety and that of our road crews, and to protect the road as it is built. At times, drivers will be travelling on an unsealed road.
Some travel delays are expected while this work is underway. The duration will vary depending on traffic volumes. However, the works site is not large, and it won’t take long for people to drive through it.
These repairs are weather dependent and may be postponed by bad weather. Waka Kotahi appreciates the work may cause delays and frustrations for residents and road users. However, this work is critical for keeping State Highway 1 maintained and safe for traffic.
