Get your submissions in on Wellington transport proposals

The NZ Transport Agency is encouraging Wellingtonians to get their submissions in for the proposed transport improvements between Cobham Drive and Buckle Street.

NZTA regional director Jenny Chetwynd says the eight week submission period closes next Friday, 26 August, and is urging the public to give their feedback about the proposals.

“We’re eager to hear the public’s views, and we encourage Wellingtonians to find out more about our proposals and have their say.”

The NZTA began public engagement for the proposals on 2 July. This involved the opening of an Information Centre at the Basin Reserve and a series of open days and community stakeholder workshops. The Information Centre at the Basin Reserve is still open next week. from 10am-3pm Monday to Friday, except 3pm to 8pm on Thursday.

“We’re grateful to the people of Wellington for their participation in the open days and subsequent community workshops,” said Ms Chetwynd.

“This has been a been a really constructive and valuable process that will help us to ensure that our decisions on the improvements reflect the local character, the needs of pedestrians and cyclists, and that areas of significant historic value are recognised, and that benefits are provided for public transport through the area.”

“It’s really important that the community shares their views with us, and feedback will help to guide our decisions during the next stage of the project.”

At the end of the engagement period all feedback received from submissions, the community workshop sessions and stakeholder group meetings will be collated and will assist the NZTA to make a decision on the proposals.

Information presented at the open days and a copy of the submission form can be found at www.nzta.govt.nz/witi(external link).

Feedback can be provided by post, in person or online, until Friday 26 August 2011.

There will also be other opportunities in the future, for those who are interested in providing feedback to the project team.
