Road users in Nelson, Tasman, Takaka, and Marlborough are being urged to keep an eye on road and weather conditions this weekend.
Metservice has heavy rain warnings in place for Tasman, west of Motueka, the Richmond and Bryant Ranges, and the Rai Valley.
For Tasman, up to 200 mm of rain could fall in the 24 hours from five pm tonight (28 October). Towards Nelson and the Rai Valley, the forecast is for up to 130 mm of rain between 10 pm tonight and seven pm on Saturday (29 October).
Mark Owen, Regional Manager Wellington/Top of South, says some parts of the local highway network are still to be fully repaired following the floods in August.
“This means they are vulnerable to more damage should we get sudden and intense rain and could be closed at short notice. People travelling over the weekend must keep an eye on the weather and keep up to date on road conditions.”

Mr Owen says drivers need to put safety first and foremost during bad weather.
“Drive to the conditions, watch your following distances, and adjust your speed. Also, be aware bad weather can see slips and tree falls on the roads. You never know what might be around the next corner. Make sure you get to your destination safely.”
