State Highway 36 will be closed between Hamurana and Oropi Gorge Road tonight, Wednesday 26 January while Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency contractors undertake road repair works and vehicle recovery.
The planned closure site has been extended to allow crew to safely remove a truck which ran-off the road near Tautau Stream between Oropi Gorge Road and Te Matai Road earlier this week.
The road will be closed from 7pm and reopen at 5am on Thursday 27 January. Staff will monitor closure points at the intersections of SH36/Oropi Gorge Road and SH36/Williams Road, either side of the vehicle recovery operation.
The detour for this route is via State Highway 33 and State Highway 2 and motorists are asked to plan ahead. Residents between Oropi Gorge Road and Te Matai Road will have access via local roads. Te Matai Road to Te Puke will remain open.
In the case of poor weather or other unforeseen circumstances, work may need to be postponed. People are advised to visit the Waka Kotahi Journey Planner website (journeys.nzta.govt.nz(external link))
