A full overnight road closure on SH6 at the Victoria Bridge between Cromwell and Queenstown will be in place from 10pm next Tuesday 2 April, until 5am Wednesday 3 April.
The closure is to allow the continuation of bridge strengthening work. This is now at a stage where the contractor is ready to move across the bridge traffic lanes to further progress work on the northern abutment.
From 5am, Wednesday 3 April, works will continue with one lane only open to normal traffic under a stop/go traffic control and delays of up to 15 minutes.
That restriction started on Tuesday, 26 March and is expected to be removed by mid-April.
“We recommend that road users who normally travel through the Kawarau Gorge plan ahead and avoid this route that night,” says Mark Stewart, Maintenance Contract Manager, NZ Transport Agency.
The Transport Agency thanks everyone for their patience and for taking care while traveling across the bridge during the works.
