The NZ Transport Agency reminds drivers that the first of a series of overnight closures on a section of Auckland's Northwestern Motorway (State Highway 16) starts tonight (Tuesday, 1 May) at 10pm.
The closures will enable the NZTA to repair the motorway's Royal Road Bridge after it was damaged last Thursday by a digger being carried on a truck.
The closures will affect both of the Northwestern's city-bound lanes between the Brigham Creek Rd round-about and the on-ramp at Royal Road. The east-bound on-ramp connecting State Highway 18 to the Northwestern near the Westgate shopping centre will also be closed.
Repairs will be carried out between 10pm and 5am when traffic volumes are lighter.
To minimise disruption to drivers, the NZTA says it will not carry out repairs on Friday and Saturdays so that the city-bound lanes remain open to allow weekend traffic to flow freely.
The westbound lanes on the Northwestern Motorway are not affected by the closures, and the Royal Road overbridge itself remains open although a 30kph speed restriction will be in place. Repairs to the bridge are expected to be completed by Tuesday, 15 May.
The NZTA is continuing to investigate the crash.
