Flooding has this morning closed State Highway 1, north of Christchurch.
Motorists are being diverted at Saltwater Creek, inland along Wyllies Road, from the south, and Harleston Road, from the north.
The NZ Transport Agency"s Performance Manager Pete Connors says there is also surface flooding on the detour route and motorists are urged to take extreme caution.
