Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising that a number of street lights on the state highway network across Gisborne need replacing, but that this may take some time.
“Due a fault with some LED lights we need to replace a large number of street lights, but there are currently global supply issues meaning there has been a delay in getting the parts needed to replace the faulty lights,” National Journey Manager Helen Harris says.
“We have been speaking to people in the community who are concerned about the lights not working, and we have advised that we are aware of the issue and have a plan for replacement, but are dependent on the parts arriving amidst a global shortage.
“We are expecting a shipment of replacement parts in the new year, with a second shipment expected sometime after March 2022.
“Once the parts arrive, the plan is to fix the lights in batches of 10-15 lights at a time. As we can’t fix all the lights at once, we will be prioritising the areas where there are multiple lights not working.
“We’re advising people to avoid touching the broken lights and if anyone sees dangling lights, please call 0800 4 HIGHWAYS.”
Waka Kotahi will provide an update in the new year once the first shipment of replacement lights arrive.
