Motorists travelling on State Highway 1, just south of Oakleigh, will be detoured on local roads this Sunday (22 March) as the NZ Transport Agency completes major resealing works along a 13km section of the highway.
The Transport Agency’s Northland and Auckland North Journey Manager Jacqui Hori-Hoult says by detouring most of the traffic from SH1, the work should be completed in a single day. “This will help minimise both delays on the day and any long-term impact for motorists.
“We have three big sites along SH1 from Mangapai Road through to SH15A on which we need to complete resealing works this construction season. It is proposed work will begin at 6am on Sunday and the work will be completed at 6pm, with Sunday 29 March being the alternative date if the weather is wet.”
The detour routes will be signposted and manned with traffic control staff along the routes should motorists need assistance. The detour routes are:
The same for all traffic heading south from Whangarei will be detoured onto Mangapai Road south to SH12, just south of the Brynderwyns.
Ms Hori-Hoult says the detours will add about 30 minutes to journey times and motorists are urged to plan their journeys and allow extra time.
“We apologise for any inconvenience as a result of this work and ask that everyone is patient, drives to the conditions and ensures they observe speed limits when travelling through these rural areas.
“The benefit of completing the work in a single day is that we will minimise delays and keep everyone moving.”
Freight vehicles and local traffic will continue to use SH1, with access being managed throughout the day.
