The rebuild of State Highway 35, north of the Motu River Bridge, is reaching the final stages.
From Monday 29 August 2022 contractors will be completing the road structure and applying a chipseal surfacing. Traffic will need to be stopped at either end of the site for periods of up to 30 minutes at a time, between the hours of 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, to enable the work.
While this might be disruptive for road users, it means we can complete the work as quickly as possible, says Roger Brady, Bay of Plenty System Manager, Maintenance & Operations.
“Since the road was first closed in mid-July, contractors have worked tirelessly to firstly restore access, and then to fully reinstate the road. This is the final push towards re-opening the road without traffic management in place.
“We want to thank the Eastern Bay of Plenty community for their patience and understanding while this work has taken place. We acknowledge the impact this event had on local communities, and we are grateful for all the support we’ve had to complete this work as quickly as possible.”
Over-weight and over-dimension vehicles will be able to travel through the site between the hours of 6pm and 6am.
We are on track to having the road fully operational mid-September.
