Emergency works on SH2 near Waihī Road underpass tomorrow

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises emergency works will be in place on State Highway 2 near the Waihī Road underpass between 4.00am and 11.00am tomorrow (Saturday 1 February).

Bay of Plenty System Manager Rob Campbell says the uneven road surface is a potential hazard, particularly for heavy vehicles and those towing boats or trailers.

“The works are needed to make the road more level, safe and smooth for motorists.”

Works will begin on the Tauranga bound lanes, before moving to the Tauriko/Bethlehem bound lanes. One lane will remain open in each direction at all times and a temporary 50km/h speed limit will be in place.

Mr Campbell encourages motorists to plan ahead, be patient and follow signposted speed limits through the work sites.

“We appreciate road works can be frustrating, but these important works will help improve the road, increase safety and make everyone’s journeys more enjoyable.

“The Transport Agency thanks motorists for their patience.”

A more permanent road repair, which will include improving the drainage to reduce the amount of water on the road following heavy rain, will get underway later this year.

These works are part of the Transport Agency’s biggest road maintenance programme in a decade.

Plan ahead for a safe, enjoyable journey this summer. Keep up to date with:
