Blasting work to improve safety on the Nevis Bluff on State Highway (SH 6) midway between Cromwell and Queenstown ends today four days ahead of schedule.
The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) says some minor traffic delays will continue for about another three weeks.
NZTA Central Otago Area Manager John Jarvis says the early finish to blasting work ends the 20 minute traffic delays and 1 hour blast closures that were necessary at various times to ensure the safety of road users while this work was carried out. Motorists can expect delays of up to 10 minutes until Friday 29 April 2011, while the contractor cleans up the site and finishes off some rock stabilisation work.
The challenging terrain at the Bluff has meant work has not always gone to plan, however the safety of road users has been paramount throughout this project. The patience they have shown during the traffic delays is appreciated.
