Windy Wellington looks set to live up to its nickname tomorrow, with the MetService issuing a Wind Watch for the region.
The watch is in place between four am and four pm with north to northwest winds forecast to approach severe gale in exposed areas. The winds will affect all regional state highways.
Truck and van drivers, light vehicle drivers, and motorcyclists must be prepared for the winds and the hazards they bring. Strong winds can make driving difficult and increase the risk of tree falls, downed power lines, and wind-blown debris.
Extra care will be needed on exposed routes such as the Wainui Saddle on State Highway 1 Transmission Gully and State Highway 2 Remutaka Hill. A similar warning has also been issued for the Marlborough Sounds. This will affect State Highway 1 near Picton. Drivers are encouraged to check road and weather conditions before they travel.
