Don’t let State Highway 58 lane closures affect your travel plans - 10 August update

|

Update 10 August:

Work on this Transmission Gully project will affect State Highway 58 this weekend.

Residents and regular users of the highway can expect delays when driving through the works area and should factor this into their travel plans.

There will be a westbound directional road closure between the Pāuatahanui roundabout and the SH58/Transmission Gully interchange from eight am to four pm this Sunday, 13 August.

  • Westbound traffic (Transmission Gully towards Pāuatahanui roundabout):
    • Please detour via Waitangirua interchange, Te Ara Kapehu, Navigation Drive and Joseph Banks Drive, or other local roads or state highways

3 August:

Contractors will resume these Transmission Gully project works this weekend.

There will be directional road closures on State Highway 58 between the Pāuatahanui roundabout and the SH58/Transmission Gully interchange between 10 am and midnight on Sunday, 6 August.

The closures are needed to allow final surfacing works to be completed.

  • Eastbound (Pāuatahanui roundabout to Transmission Gully)
    • Please detour via Joseph Banks Drive, Navigation Drive, Te Ara Kapehu and the Waitangirua interchange or other local roads/state highways.
    • This direction will close from 10 am.
  • Westbound traffic (Transmission Gully towards Pāuatahanui roundabout):
    • Please detour via Waitangirua interchange, Te Ara Kapehu, Navigation Drive and Joseph Banks Drive, or other local roads or state highways
    • This direction will close in the afternoon once the westbound lane has re-opened.
  • Staffed road closure points will be operating on the closed lanes.

This work must be done during the day as temperatures at night are too cold for the materials used.

Contractors are working hard to get this section of highway completed as quickly as possible, but this work may cause disruption. Drivers should expect travel delays and should plan their journeys accordingly.

31 July 4:57pm:

Contractors will be continuing work on this Transmission Gully project tonight.

Drivers must plan for an eastbound lane closure between 9 pm and 4.30 am tonight, Monday, 31 July.

This closure only will affect a short section of State Highway 58 near Bradey Road, heading towards the Hutt Valley.

The westbound lane will remain open with stop/go traffic management to ensure access in both directions. Drivers can expect short delays and should factor this into their travel plans.

Set up for the lane closure will begin at 8 pm. Motorists must obey temporary speed limits and follow the instructions of road crews while the closure is put in place.

30 July 2023 1:50pm:

The schedule for these works has changed.

An eastbound road closure was put in place this morning, instead of the earlier planned westbound closure. This closure will run until 8 pm tonight.

The planned westbound road closure has been postponed and will not happen today.

Directional road closures will be in place on State Highway 58, between the Pāuatahanui roundabout and SH58/Transmission Gully interchange from 8am to 8pm on Sunday 30 July.

The closures are needed to allow final surfacing works on this section of State Highway 58 to be completed. The rest of State Highway 58 between Lower Hutt and the State Highway 58/Transmission Gully Interchange will be open and operating normally.

Closure and detour details:

  • Westbound Traffic (Transmission Gully towards Pāuatahanui roundabout):

    • This direction will be closed in the afternoon once the westbound lane has re-opened.
  • Staffed road closure points will be operating on the closed lanes.

Contractors are working hard to complete work on this section of State Highway 58 and are making every effort to minimise the impact on road users and residents. However, this work must be done during the day because night-time temperatures are too cold to lay asphalt.

This work is dependent on various factors and may be postponed at short notice. Postponement dates are Sunday 6 or Sunday 13 August.
