A stretch of State Highway 2 between Masterton and Carterton will see directional closures for two nights for pothole repairs.
SH2 between Chester Road and Norfolk/Cornwall Roads will be closed to southbound traffic on Sunday 21 July, and northbound traffic on Monday 22 July.
Closures will be in place between 9pm and 4am each night, with affected traffic being detoured via a local road detour (details below).
It is important to note that while one direction is closed, the other direction will operate as normal (no detour is needed).
The work will be completed by 4am each morning in time for commuter traffic.
Wellington Transport Alliance manager Roxanne Hilliard says the overnight closures earlier this week allowed crews to make repairs to damaged central median barrier and replace damaged signs.
“However unfortunately bad weather meant we couldn’t repair the worst of the potholes. We recognise how urgent these repairs are for the safety and efficiency of travel, which is why we’ve scheduled next week’s closures.
“Its important pothole repair work is carried out during dry weather, to ensure the repair lasts longer, before a more permanent fix is carried out in the warmer months.”
During the closures, the following detours will be in place:
The detours will add time to people’s journeys. Please allow extra time for your travel and check the highway conditions before you leave. NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi wants to thank all road users for their support during the upcoming work.
This work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled if the weather doesn’t permit – please continue to check the NZTA Journey Planner for updates.
