The NZ Transport Agency advises motorists travelling south on State Highway 1 (SH1) at Rangiriri to expect a detour overnight while contractors carry out repair work.
All south-bound SH1 traffic will be diverted down Wayside Road between 9pm and 12pm to allow the contractor, Fletcher Construction, to repair a pot hole south of the Rangiriri Bridge and tension the wire rope barrier.
The work must be carried out immediately as bad weather is forecast for the weekend and next week which would prevent work and could cause more damage.
The main alignment of the 4.8km Rangiriri Section of the was partially opened overnight on Monday, 20 June.
SH1 traffic has been travelling on one lane in each direction and interchanges at Rangiriri and Te Kauwhata are partially opened.
The opening marked the completion of stage one of the project, but the Transport Agency and the contractor would like to remind motorists there is still a lot of work to complete before the project is fully opened in April 2017.
Motorists are asked to pay careful attention to the site signage and obey the posted speed limit as work continues to complete the project.
A temporary speed limit of 50km/h is in place on the main alignment. The contractor will be reviewing this over the next two weeks with a view to increasing it.
The Transport Agency would also like to remind local traffic the Rangiriri Interchange is controlled by traffic signals.
These signals are being monitored to address any timing issues with the phasing. Please stop on the red signal for your own safety and the safety of those you share the road with.
