GHD Limited has won a contract to design changes to the existing Glenda Drive Intersection at Frankton and a new roundabout where the Eastern Access Road connects with SH 6, nearby.
The design work was competitively tendered and GHD Limited was awarded a contract worth around $300,000. This joint NZ Transport Agency and QLDC project will improve access to the Glenda Drive commercial area that will become available via the first section of the Eastern Access Road and an interconnecting local road.
NZ Transport Agency Otago-Southland Highway Manager, Ian Duncan says although improved safety on the state highway is a key aim of the project, the Eastern Access Road also provides essential access to commercial and residential development planned for the Frankton Flats. The development of the Frankton Flats is an important part of the planning for growth in the Wakatipu Basin.
“The construction contract is anticipated to be tendered early in the fourth quarter of this year so construction should be underway prior to Christmas. Disruptive work on the state highway will be programmed to occur outside the busy Christmas period.”
Mr Duncan said the combined value of the construction works being designed for the state highway the local road network is in excess of $5 million.
