Delays possible as road works continue in the Bay of Plenty

|

Bay of Plenty motorists are advised to drive with care and allow extra time when travelling next week as road maintenance and rock fall prevention work continues.

Speed restrictions and traffic management will be in place on roads around the region from Monday.

Sites where delays of between five and 15 minutes are possible are detailed below to allow people to plan ahead when travelling.

SH29 Kaimai Range – weather activated variable speed sign trial

Stop/go traffic management and speed restrictions will be on place on a 12 kilometre stretch of SH29, between the State Highway 28 (SH28) junction on the Waikato side, and Soldiers Road on the Tauranga side, from next week.

Contractors are widening the road and installing guardrails in preparation for the weather-activated speed sign trial to start in November. Drivers should allow an extra ten minutes when travelling.

SH30 Rotoma– rock fall prevention work

Stop/go traffic management and 30km/h speed restrictions will be in place from 8am until 4pm each day next week while contractors carry out rock fall prevention work near Matahi Road, Rotoma.

The work will occasionally require traffic to be stopped for five to 10 minutes intervals. Motorists are advised to allow an extra 15 minutes when travelling on this route.

SH29A Maungatapu underpass

People driving towards Mount Maunganui and Maungatapu will be diverted onto new temporary lanes from next week to allow contractors to begin building the western Maungatapu Bridge. Motorists are advised to drive with care through the site while they get used to the changes.

SH29A Maungatapu underpass

SH36 Rotorua to Tauranga

Speed restrictions and lane closures will be in place on several sites along this route this month as workers install fibre optic cables.  Drivers should allow an extra 10 minutes travel time.  This work is expected to continue through to late December.

The Transport Agency apologies for any inconvenience caused and thanks motorists for their patience during the works.
